The Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has many successful vehicles in the hatchback and compact sedan segments. A small SUV is missing in their portfolio. The MSIL has been planning to introduce a compact SUV in the Indian market since 2012. During the 2012 Indian auto show the MSIL has unveiled a crossover the Maruti XA Alpha. The other compact vehicles like the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster showcased at the same time have already been successfully launched in the Indian market.

The MSIL could not launch the vehicle XA Alpha till now as they have been busy with the launching of the Celerio and the Ciaz. The model showcased in 2012 has already become outdated. A fresher model of the XA Alpha has been unveiled during the 2014 Indian auto show. MSIL wants to launch the XA Alpha towards the end of 2015 or early next year. The car is expected in petrol and diesel variants priced rupees 6.5 to 10 lakh. The 5-seater SUV may have automatic transmission variants at a later stage. A muscular stance, high wheel arches, new bumpers and new design tail lamp fittings are expected on the XA Alpha. The cabin is expected to be loaded with lots of comfort and safety features like rear parking sensors, air bags, ABS, EBD, electrical ORVMs with blinkers and a music system with Bluetooth connectivity.

The engine for the petrol model is likely to be a 1.2 litre K-series engine. The MSIL will use the 1.3 litre Fiat engines for the diesel variants which are already in use on some other models. The dimensions of the 5-seater XA Alpha are expected to be 4000 mm length, 2500 mm wheelbase and 180 mm ground clearance. There will be 4×2 and all wheel drive options.

When launched, the Maruti XA Alpha will be competing with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, the Renault Duster, the Fiat Avventura and the Mahindra Quanto. Go to this website in order to acquire additional information about latest models of automobiles.
